As law enforcement continues to search for the last two escaped inmates that are still on the loose, 12 people accused of helping these escaped inmates have been arrested.
Many of their bonds have been set at least $1 million. They are accused of everything, from bringing food to the inmates to sending cash apps to dropping them off in the New Orleans East area.
Honing in on one of the people arrested, Sterling Williams. He had been working at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office for five years when court documents said he had in some way aided the escapees by turning off a water valve in a cell, which essentially helped the inmates get out of the jail.
We have heard since then from Williams’ attorney, who said Williams is being used as the fall guy, that Williams was not threatened by the inmates, like what was mentioned in court documents.
Now we are also hearing from a close friend of Williams, who said he would never have done this.
“He’s not a bad person. His mom didn’t raise him like that. I actually know his mom, she didn’t raise him that way. She’s a good person, so is he. Why would he put himself in jeopardy when he is his mom’s caretaker?” friend Christina said.
The attorney general said Williams had plenty of time to alert others of what was happening.
Currently, Williams remains in jail on a $1.1 million bond.
