Louisiana officials are urging residents to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, emphasizing the importance of readiness despite federal budget cuts impacting public safety response services like the National Weather Service and FEMA.
Gov. Jeff Landry expressed confidence in the state’s preparedness, noting improvements made since previous major storms.
“Since that time we have worked on improving our emergency response and worked on improving our infrastructure. We have worked on improving our resiliency and our electrical grid and in our communications,” said Landry.
Officials from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) stated that their plans have been rehearsed and refined, and they are ready to respond.
GOHSEP emphasized the need for citizens to do their part to enhance the effectiveness of disaster response efforts.
Officials noted that the website getagameplan.org can help residents prepare and refine their checklists for hurricane season.
