On Wednesday (June 11), Atlanta native and rap icon Killer Mike was named as the city’s Celebrity Ambassador for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in exactly one year. Alongside the announcement, FIFA released a promotional video where the rapper introduces his hometown to viewers while sharing the city’s rich musical history. “I’m looking forward to FIFA coming here, because I know the city is going to progress and grow and never be the same again,” Mike says. “This reminds me of when the Olympics came in the Nineties and how it grew the city.” Mexico, Canada, and the United States will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Atlanta set to host eight matches, the second-most of the tournament, including one Round of 32 match, a Round of 16 match, and a semifinal game on July 15, 2026.
