A Mississippi man was arrested for allegedly shooting at Slidell police during a domestic dispute call early Monday morning.
According to police, they responded to a 911 hang-up call at a home in the 3600 block of Riviera Drive.
When they arrived to the home, officers encountered a domestic disturbance happening between a man and woman in the driveway.
Officers said when they attempted to speak with the woman, Corey Griffin, 39, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, produced a gun and fired at least two rounds at officers.
Griffin then retreated into the home, where it was discovered that the victim’s young child was inside.
Due to circumstances, the officers did not return fire.
Slidell SWAT entered the home, where they found the child sleeping. The child was removed and brought to a secure location.
It was determined that Griffin left the scene through the backyard, following the shooting.
Police were able to eventually find Griffin hiding in the rear seat of an abandoned car.
Griffin is being charged with one count of domestic abuse aggravated assault. Kenner police say additional charges for attempted first degree murder are pending.
Police say they were responding to a domestic violence complaint on Riviera Drive when they were shot at by the suspect.
No one was injured.
