Some of Louisiana’s best chefs will compete Friday for bragging rights and a chance to represent the state in a national culinary cookoff later this year.
The annual Louisiana Seafood Cookoff is happening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Harbor Center in Slidell.
Tickets are on sale now.
Twelve Louisiana chefs will prepare seafood dishes for a panel of judges, who will crown one person king or queen of seafood.
Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser told WDSU that the event, which travels to different parts of the state each year, will feature several Northshore restaurants in 2025.
Attendees can sample tons of great food while learning about the importance of supporting the local seafood industry.
“(We need) to support domestic seafood,” said Nungesser. “We’re traveling the world, promoting Louisiana and all of our great food with our chefs. So (the competition) is also a great opportunity for us to highlight the seafood.”
The winner of the state competition will take on chefs from other states at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans during the Great American Seafood Cookoff, which is coming up on Aug. 2.
Nungesser said a Massachusetts-based chef won last year’s national competition, so he hopes Louisiana or another Gulf South state can bring home the title this year.
