Lake Pontchartrain is set to host its first powerboat races in nearly 20 years, with tens of thousands expected to gather in Metairie near the Bonnabel Boat Launch for the Powerboat P-1 event, which kicks off tonight and runs through Sunday.
The Powerboat Grand Prix will be held in Lake Pontchartrain off Metairie’s Bonnabel Boat Launch, featuring powerboat and jet ski racing teams from across the globe.
It is a family-friendly event that will feature local vendors, food, live entertainment, and showcase state-of-the-art boats and jet skis.
There will be temporary traffic adjustments and street closures starting today until Sunday. Parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the surrounding neighborhoods and on streets like Bonnabel Blvd., beginning at Veterans Blvd. and ending at the levee.
“No parking” signs will be placed around the areas, and many streets will be one-way only. Attendees should pay attention to signs in the areas.
From West End to the Causeway Bridge will be the backdrop for this high-speed marine event. P1 Powerboat is more than just a race; it’s a high-energy, family-friendly event that brings together cutting-edge performers, local hospitality, and global attention.
These traffic adjustments are in place now, and this is a free event that runs through Sunday.
