After rumors swirled of a serious injury to one of LSU’s star players, head coach Brian Kelly cleared the air Friday giving a health update prior to practice.
Kelly said senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is dealing with patella tendonitis and does not have any type of ACL injury.
Kelly said on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the worst, he would say the seriousness of the injury is a 1.5.
This comes after an online rumor circulated Wednesday afternoon saying the Heisman-trophy candidate had suffered a serious knee injury at practice, possibly a torn ACL.
While these were just rumors from unsubstantiated sources, the reports still spread like wildfire, causing some concern and panic within the fan base.
Nussmeier is a senior and considered by many a potential first-round selection in the 2026 NFL draft.
He is truly an irreplaceable piece in the Tigers’ roster, and has to have a banner season if LSU hopes to reach the playoffs this year.
Nussmeier is the son of Saints Offensive Coordinator Doug Nussmeier.
The Tigers open the season in a highly anticipated matchup against Clemson on Aug. 30.
