State Sen. Larry Selders, a Democrat from Baton Rouge, died Tuesday at age 44.
Selders leaves behind his wife and two sons.
He was elected to the Senate in 2025 and spent five years in the State House before that.
Several Louisiana leaders reacted to his death.
Gov. Jeff Landry said in part, “Sharon and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of State Senator Larry Selders. He was a gentle giant who was respected by all! We will hold him and his family in our prayers.”
Senate President Cameron Henry said, “It is with unbelievable sorrow that we receive the news of our colleague and dear friend Senator Larry Selders’ passing. Please pray for his wife Kendra and their two children in this difficult time. Larry was a friend to all he worked with and represented, always smiling and positive in all he did. His constituents and colleagues alike remember a man who gave his all in every endeavor. We will miss his light and his heart in the Senate.”
Rep. Troy Carter also released a statement, saying, “I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of my friend, Senator Larry Selders. Larry served the people of Louisiana with integrity, distinction, and an unwavering commitment to public service.”
