Houma police and Houma Fire responded to a residential fire early Saturday morning that left one person dead.
Police say the fire happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sept. 5 to the 2200 block of Effie Street.
Officers secured the scene while Houma Fire Department crews extinguished the fire.
Firefighters found a woman, identified as Belinda Leboeuf, 32, inside the home and immediately began lifesaving efforts.
She later died from injuries sustained in the fire.
The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is leading the investigation into the cause and circumstances of the blaze.
Additional information will be released by the State Fire Marshal’s Office as the investigation continues.
