A Lockport man has been arrested in connection with a boat theft in Larose.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Francis Fonseca Jr., 39, on Thursday after they began investigating the theft of a boat and trailer that had been parked on Le Village Drive in Larose and was stolen overnight.
Deputies say that through the use of automated license plate recognition cameras, investigators were able to determine that a blue Ford F-150 registered to Fonseca was used in the theft.
According to LPSO, due to a previous arrest, Fonseca also has a GPS monitoring device, which helped deputies connect him to Larose during the time of the theft.
Fonseca was located at the boat launch in Larose, and he had one of the motors from the stolen boat in his possession.
Deputies say the other motor was located hidden in Lockport, and the boat and trailer were located at a Lockport residence.
Fonseca is being charged with theft of a motor vehicle and obstruction of justice.
His bail is set at $275,000.
This is an ongoing investigation.
