New Orleans Saints fans are traveling to Paris for Sunday’s game against the Steelers, even as protests and unrest continue across France.
French President Emmanuel Macron said Thursday that he is convening an emergency security meeting in anticipation of widespread weekend protests.
At Louis Armstrong International Airport, fans were seen packing their bags with black and gold gear, passports in hand, and chanting “Who Dat!” as they prepared to board flights to the City of Lights.
For one couple, the stakes are high for the game.
“I want to see the Saints win in addition to a ring, that would be very, very nice. It might happen at the game,” one fan said.
Despite the violence seen in Paris and across the country, fans remain determined to support their team.
“I’m going to support my team and bring back a win,” another fan said.
The NFL has announced heightened security measures for the game. The league’s security team is already on the ground in Paris, working closely with local and national authorities to ensure safety.
“I’m quite sure the NFL will take care of the fans,” one traveler said.
Another added, “We’re just trusting God that everything is going to be okay and we are going to enjoy Paris. We are going to take Paris on.”
The NFL said it has not seriously considered relocating the game.
