The city of New Orleans Department of Public Works announces a temporary roadway closure on S. Broad Avenue near the S. White and Delachaise Street intersection.
This closure will begin Monday, Oct. 26, and is expected to remain in place for approximately one month.
The closure is necessary to accommodate manhole adjustments and roadway improvements.
The work is part of ongoing roadway improvements along S. Broad between S. White/Delachaise streets and Walmsley Avenue.
Additional improvements include roadway pavement repairs, curb and sidewalk replacement.
During construction, motorists traveling along S. Broad toward Washington Avenue will be detoured around the work area.
They should follow detour signage and allow additional travel time.
There will also be temporary no-parking restrictions in place along S. Broad Avenue between S. White Street and Walmsley Avenue and between Walmsley Avenue and Delachaise Street.
Stephen Nelson, deputy chief administrative officer for infrastructure, issued the following statement:
“The Broad Street, Magazine Street, and other larger paving projects we’ll be issuing will include ADA compliance-related repairs and upgrades such as new ramps and/or sidewalk and crossing repairs. The Department of Public Works is striving to address accessibility as much as possible, and leveraging existing paving projects when we have a capable contractor on site is one way we can make that happen. While we may not address all sidewalks when we do a simple mill/overlay, when we do complete more complex projects, we’ll be looking to include ADA upgrades.”
