Parkway Bakery & Tavern’s Thanksgiving Po’Boy is back for November. The sandwich brings together staples of a Thanksgiving meal, and a portion of every sale benefits the Al Copeland Foundation’s cancer programs.
The annual #IDidItForTheTurkey fundraiser takes place every Wednesday in November. Organizers hope to raise more than $70,000 this year. Since 2017, the fundraiser has collected about $143,800, including $60,000 last year.
Customers can buy a $100 “Skip the Line” pass for priority pickup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The pass includes the sandwich, sweet potato fries, iced tea, ice cream, a sweet treat, a T-shirt and a spin on the prize wheel. Passes are available online or at Parkway on Wednesdays, when the foundation will have a tent at the restaurant.
More than 400 people used the passes during last year’s four-week fundraiser, according to a Parkway representative. Anyone can also spin the prize wheel for $5 without buying a pass.
The Al Copeland Foundation says it connects cancer patients with clinical trials and helps families through its patient assistance fund at Manning Family Children’s. The fund provides an average of $1,500 per patient to help cover expenses such as bills, transportation and food. That support can also help parents take time off work to care for their child, the foundation says.
