The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office stopped a scammer trying to steal thousands in cash from a local resident.
The scammer posed as a Paypal employee saying they needed the victim to mail $20,000 to a New York state address due to an account issue.
Deputies worked with law enforcement in New York to track the package and stop it before delivery.
The money is on its way back to the victim.
The sheriff’s office warns scams are getting more sophisticated and are encouraging people to share information to help neighbors avoid them.
