The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office is holding a news conference Friday to discuss a recent conviction of a man tied to a deadly shooting.
According to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, Jeremiah Williams was convicted in the fatal shooting of U.S. Army Reserve Sergeant Frederick Magee Jr.
The shooting happened on Nov. 3, 2024, in the Warehouse District.
According to the district attorney’s office, Williams was found guilty of shooting and killing Magee in the 700 block of Tchoupitoulas Street.
Magee was found lying on the sidewalk outside a hotel with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The District Attorney’s Office said surveillance footage captured the driver of a black SUV exiting the car, approaching Magee, and opening fire with a rifle.
The shooter continued firing after Magee fell to the ground before returning to the SUV and fleeing the scene. Investigators recovered 12 spent rifle casings from the location, according to the district attorney.
The DA’s Office said NOPD Homicide Detective Matthew Riffle led the investigation, which relied on surveillance footage and cellphone data to track the suspect vehicle’s movements to the West Bank.
Investigators later found a burned SUV believed to have been used in the shooting. The investigation identified Williams as the shooter, according to the district attorney’s office.
The DA’s office said Williams’ co-defendant Jerroy Holden pleaded guilty as charged to obstruction of justice on Oct. 16. According to the NOPD investigative report, Holden assisted Williams in burning the vehicle used in the killing.
An Orleans Parish jury unanimously found Williams guilty on October 23 of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm or weapon by a convicted felon.
A news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. to address Williams’ conviction and sentencing, which was scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6.
Representatives of the District Attorney’s Office and NOPD Detective Matthew Riffle, who led the investigation, are expected to participate in the press conference.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, an all-women Homicide Unit prosecution team handled the case and included Assistant District Attorneys Abigail MacDonald and Adele Krieger, Victim-Witness Advocate Melissa Robles, OPDA Investigator Elizabeth Garcia, and Trial Assistant Diene “DJ” Jiles.
