Kaysea Tassara moved her family across the country after her husband received military orders, relocating them to St. Charles Parish.
Determined to build community in their new home, Tassara made plans to open Flowers Near Me, located at 13322 Highway 90, Suite O, Boutte, LA 70039.
The shop features 32 other local vendors and was set to open on November 20th.
“I put everything in, and I was really looking forward to being open for the holidays. That was going to be our big introduction to the community,” said Tassara.
Instead, on October 30th, a driver came crashing through the front doors, sending glass and brick scattering across the sales floor that had already been set up.
Security footage from a nearby storefront caught the whole thing on camera. The driver, Brent Woodruff, is then seen exiting the vehicle and walking away.
Woodruff now faces hit-and -run and reckless driving charges.
Meanwhile, Tassara and her family are left to pick up the pieces. As they wait for insurance to settle their claims, the shop’s grand opening is delayed.
Still, Tassara is keeping a hopeful outlook as the community rallies around her shop.
“I haven’t had peace in a really long time, and our family deserves that, you know? And then this happens. So, that’s my motivation to keep going. My family and myself I deserve this,” said Tassara.
