A Jefferson Parish middle school teacher was surprised Tuesday after receiving the Milken Family Foundation Award for her commitment to students.
Sarah Watkins, an English teacher at Stella Worley Middle School on the Westbank, was surprised with the award and received $25,000.
Watkins is recognized for her leadership, engagement with the community, and overall love for students.
“I love my kids and I love teaching,” Watkins said. “I’m just going to keep — I’m ready to talk to my kids, I’m excited to see them.”
“What a gift to have the aptitude — and capacity — to inspire leadership in others the way Sarah Watkins does at Stella Worley,” said Dr. Joshua Barnett. “Her exemplary dedication to continuous improvement has made a positive impact on her school, community, and state. I look forward to seeing Sarah shine on a national scale as a member of the Milken Educator Network.”
Watkins is also awarded a trip to Washington, D.C., this summer to meet with other educators in the Milken Educator Network.
