Another bridge in Terrebonne Parish has been closed until further notice due to a faulty motor.
The Department of Transportation and Development closed the Bayou Dularge Bascule Bridge on Monday.
According to Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government, on Saturday one of the motors failed and the other continued to operate.
Each span operates with two motors and should be able to operate with one motor. However, the south span motor is not reliable enough due to the high amperage it is pulling, which could result in a total failure.
Terrebonne Parish President Jason Bergeron posted to social media that DOTD attempted to fix the bridge on Tuesday but were unsuccessful.
This could take up to around 7 days if the north span motor can operate on its own.
A temporary curfew was put in place Monday for the HNC Bridge and will stay in place until further notice.
The bridge will remain open to traffic from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A state of emergency was issued on June 13 in Terrebonne Parish due to damage reported to nearly all the bridges across the parish.
According to the state of emergency, seven bridges were closed across the parish due to damage or deteriorating conditions.
The bridges closed in the parish include Boudreaux Canal Bridge, Dulac Pontoon Bridge, Buquet Bridge, the St. Anthony Bridge, Daigleville Bridge, Bayou Blue Pontoon Bridge, and the Company Canal Bridge.
According to parish leaders, Chauvin residents are currently relying on one bridge to access their homes and businesses, which would cause a threat to evacuation orders during hurricane season.
Parish leaders are calling on the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to address repairs to the bridges, saying Terrebonne Parish is in a crisis.
According to the state of emergency, immediate attention to the bridges is needed to protect lives, property, and the welfare of residents.
