Young people are inundated with information from every angle, and one group is working to help their peers identify misinformation, particularly on social media.
As part of an immersive program at Be Loud Studios, students examined the roots of misinformation, how it spreads, who it impacts, and how it shapes perceptions of themselves and their community.
They used their findings to create a short radio story and a podcast series focused on distinguishing fact from fiction.
“I think the best way to separate fact from fiction for me personally is trying to cross-check your sources, seeing multiple perspectives and seeing all the different sources, like what might stay in the story and what might get excluded,” said Tae Jassi Rashad.
The podcast was produced at Be Loud Studios, a local organization that amplifies the voices of young people by providing tools, training, and a platform to share their stories with the world.
The students also transformed their work on misinformation into a curriculum to share in classrooms across the city.
