LSU is tightening game-day safety measures after unauthorized gatherings and disruptive behavior near the Enchanted Forest, Pentagon and Greek Theater following Homecoming.
What to know
LSU President Wade Rousse announced immediate changes focused on crowd management, pedestrian safety and enforcement of university policies. The university says it wants to address safety concerns while preserving traditional tailgating.
What will change on game days?
LSU plans to increase foot and mobile patrols, monitor locations where large gatherings have formed and coordinate responses with local law enforcement.
The university will also review pedestrian routes, vehicle restrictions and emergency access corridors. It plans to evaluate ways to improve game-day safety communications and promote reporting resources.
What are the tailgating rules?
LSU says large, organized gatherings with DJs or live bands that set up during and after game time are prohibited.
Student tailgates, including those hosted by Greek organizations, must end one hour before kickoff under university policy.
What behavior will LSU enforce rules against?
The university says it will enforce laws and policies involving illegal drug activity, fighting, threatening behavior and disorderly conduct. The rules apply to everyone on campus, regardless of their university affiliation.
People who engage in unlawful or dangerous behavior could be removed from campus, face university discipline where applicable or face criminal enforcement.
How can people report a safety concern?
Anyone who sees threatening behavior, a fight, suspected criminal activity or another safety concern should call LSU Police at 225-578-3231. Call 911 in an emergency.
Why it matters
LSU says large, uncontrolled crowds and disruptive behavior can affect fans’ experience and create challenges for crowd control, pedestrian safety and emergency response. Rousse said the university wants to preserve tailgating traditions while ensuring campus activities are conducted responsibly.
