A veteran Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office sergeant resigned after Kenner police arrested him on a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired, according to authorities.
Kenner police said they received a 911 call around 3 a.m. Nov. 2 from someone at a convenience store in the 4000 block of Williams Boulevard. The caller reported that a man had arrived in a marked JPSO patrol unit and appeared impaired.
Officers found the driver behind the wheel with the engine running. Police said they saw several signs of impairment. The driver refused standardized field sobriety testing and was taken into custody based on the officers’ observations.
Police identified the driver as Ronald Bodenheimer, 48, an off-duty JPSO sergeant. After arriving at the Kenner Police Department jail, he agreed to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.174%, police said. The legal limit is 0.08%.
Bodenheimer, who served with the Sheriff’s Office for 19 years, was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center and later released after posting bond, jail records show. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed he submitted his resignation after the arrest.
