The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a former Amite councilman accused of domestic violence.
According to the sheriff’s office, Damon Ellzey, 50, was taken into custody Wednesday morning and is facing one count of battery on a dating partner with serious injury.
The incident stemmed from a crash reported on Oct. 24 in the 15000 block of Fleming Cemetery Road in Independence near the intersection of Highway 1054.
According to the sheriff’s office, a woman was found near a car in a ditch and had a significant injury to her forehead.
Deputies determined the injury came from a fight between the victim and Ellzey inside her home.
The sheriff said the victim escaped the home and crashed her car while trying to leave the driveway.
A warrant was then issued for Ellzey’s arrest. Ellzey was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the Independence area on Wednesday, according to the sheriff.
