A Luling woman has been arrested in connection with a deadly crash involving a pedestrian.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Sandra Kinler, 64, of Luling, on one count of negligent homicide.
The crash happened on Tuesday, Nov. 3, just before 3 p.m. in the 300 block of West Heather Drive.
Deputies say Abigail Sampey, 79, of Luling, was going on a walk in her neighborhood, at the same time Kinler was driving an SUV eastbound on West Heather Drive.
Sampey had just left her driveway, walking eastbound on West Heather and was on the right edge of the road.
Video footage shows the SUV failed to take action to avoid hitting Sampey from behind, despite her having adequate time to do so and an unobstructed view ahead with no other traffic on the street.
Sampey was airlifted to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Toxicology samples were collected from Kinler and have been submitted for analysis; the results are still pending. Depending on the results, even more serious charges could be brought. This case is still under active investigation, and anyone with any information should contact Sergeant T.J. Mayville at 985-783-6237.
This is an ongoing investigation.
