A former Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office employee and Ponchatoula man has been arrested and accused in an investigation involving child sex abuse materials.
According to the Louisiana State Police, a joint investigation involving Homeland Security Investigations began in September after HSI received a cyber tip regarding child sex abuse materials on social media.
Gavin Lyvers, 34, of Ponchatoula, was arrested in connection with the investigation.
According to State Police, the social media account was identified as belonging to Lyvers. Investigators say that Lyvers was using the platform to communicate with minors and solicit CSAM in exchange for items of monetary value.
Lyvers was arrested on Friday and is facing two counts of child sex abuse materials, five counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, and five counts of computer-aided solicitation of a minor.
He was processed into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
JPSO confirmed that Lyvers was an employee with the department for 14 years and has been terminated.
According to JPSO, the crimes Lyvers was accused of were committed in Tangipahoa Parish, and the department assisted State Police with taking him into custody.
LSP Investigators ask anyone who may have had contact with Lyvers or who has information regarding potential additional victims to come forward. Information can be reported anonymously through the Louisiana State Police online reporting system by visiting la-safe.org and selecting the “Suspicious Activity” link.
