The Covington Police Department has made an arrest after it says someone was attacked for exercising their right to free speech on July 4.
Jeremy Judice was arrested and is facing a charge of simple battery and criminal damage to property.
According to police, Judice was traveling westbound on East Boston Street, when he observed a protestor holding an anti-Trump sign with which he disagreed with.
Judice parked his car and approached the protestor, who was standing on the sidewalk on East Boston St.
During the verbal confrontation, Judice attempted to forcibly remove the sign from the protestor’s hand, at which point he physically battered the person.
Witness statement and video evidence collected at the scene lead to Judice’s arrest.
Police issued the following statement saying they take a zero-tolerance approach to violence in the community:
“This kind of behavior will not be tolerated in the City of Covington, regardless of anyone’s political ideology. We are committed to upholding the rights and safety of all individuals in our city and will take decisive action against those who seek to undermine them,” said Chief Michael Ferrell.
WDSU has reached out to the police department for more information on the incident.
