Local community organizations are helping families get ready for the new school year.
Families can go to the following location for resources:
Inspire Nola School and Zulu drive-thru giveaway:
- Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at McDonogh 35 Senior High School
- Cars will be limited to one backpack per child, per vehicle and one computer per child while supplies last
YEP and Ochsner Children’s:
- Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1200 Hayne Blvd.
- Free backpack giveaways (while supplies last), music, food, and vision and hearing screenings
The Housing Authority of New Orleans:
- Saturday, July 26, from noon to 2 p.m. at 3450 Desire Parkway to support residents of The Estates
- Friday, Aug. 1 — New Florida Community at New Florida Playground (2521 Independence St.) | 5-7 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 2— Fischer Community at the corner of Hendee Street and Wagner Street | noon to 2 p.m.
Children’s Museum of St. Tammany:
- Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Pelican Park’s Pelican Landing and The Groves in Mandeville, 63550 Pelican Drive
- Live performances, Zumba, martial arts and more
- 300 free backpacks to the first 300 elementary school students
NOLA Public Schools:
- Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Joe W. Brown Park Rec. Center, 5601 Read Blvd., New Orleans
- Haircuts, sports physicals, immunizations, dental and primary care info, free food, and more
- Saturday, July 26, from 8 a.m. to noon at Xavier University Center.
- Families will need to register for the event by clicking here.
Greater New Orleans STEM:
School uniform vouchers are available in Jefferson and Lafourche parishes based on need.
Families in Jefferson Parish will need to contact their local community center here to get more information regarding the vouchers.
Lafourche Parish uniform voucher applications are available at the Mathews Complex or the Thibodaux Health Unit now until the maximum number of applications is received. For more information, visit here or call 985-493-6635.
