The New Orleans Saints put on the pads for the first time at training camp.
The physicality and the intensity were up as the defense won practice number five.
Monday, the defensive line was disruptive. A star player on the d-line, Carl Granderson who loves when the pads come on.
“Obviously there’s a lot of talk throughout the week before we get to pads and jerseys. Everyone want to ‘wait until we get the pads on, we going to see’ but it don’t matter to me. I’m trying to hit someone regardless,” Granderson said.
“We got the pads on today and we was flying around hitting people.”
On the other side of the ball, quarterback Tyler Shough ran with the first team. Spencer Rattler was with the second team, and Jake Haener was with the third team.
Through five practices, Shough appears more conservative. The rookie isn’t getting the ball downfield as much as the other quarterbacks. Shough is checking it down, running it more, and not taking many risks.
“I think Tyler has done a nice job,” head coach Kellen Moore said. “He’s communicating at a really high level. He’s making good decisions. As we go through it, we’ll continue to evaluate each and every day. “
“These guys will grow every day in every opportunity, especially for Tyler. His first time, rookie year training camp. Every day there’s new install, new material that maybe is a first time for him. He’s going through that process and I think he’s done an excellent job.”
