Louisiana has 14,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine that may expire soon

Louisiana has about 14,000 does of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, also known as the Janssen vaccine, that will expire at the end of the month, according to Dr. Joseph Kanter with the Louisiana Department of Health.

Kanter says he expects some of the doses to be used between now and then.

Louisiana health officials say the FDA is working on a protocol where these doses can be kept aside under cold storage while they study the vaccines to see if they can be safely extended past their expiration date.

“This is good news because it means they may not need to be wasted,” Kanter said.
