Settlement reached in excessive force lawsuit against Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office

There is a settlement in an excessive force lawsuit against the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

In March of 2019, Jacobi Cage was arrested by deputies along a Metairie parade route.

He was forcibly taken into custody after he and a deputy exchanged gestures with middle fingers.

Charges were later dismissed by the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office.

Cage filed a lawsuit saying the improper arrest violated his civil rights and forced him to pay legal and medical bills.

Late Friday both sides agreed to settle the suit.

The settlement is confidential and court documents do not indicate what both sides agreed to and if any money was paid.
